Identify the receiver
A headset may offer Bluetooth, a dedicated USB receiver and a cable. These can appear as different sound devices and use different transports. The Bluetooth diagnosis only applies when the current audio is actually crossing the Bluetooth path.
Compare complete workflows
For a meeting, test microphone clarity and playback together. For a game, include the chat app and the game. For recording, make and replay a short clip from the target application. A music-only test cannot describe the experience once a microphone is active.
Use equipment already available for the first comparison. A separate microphone or a wired mode can isolate one variable without immediately requiring a purchase.
Write down a reliable fallback
When you find a stable configuration, save the app input and output choices and the relevant format setting. Recheck after major driver or app updates. For an important live session, a short preflight and a known fallback are more useful than relying on an untested feature label.
